Product Details Specifications Reviews

Nowhere on the course is precision and creativity more important than around the green. When choosing your precision scoring clubs, why use a tool designed for everybody that ends up fitting nobody? Each Scratch 1018 Wedge is ground by hand from a raw forging to exact specs and one of the six standard sole grinds offered by Scratch Golf. Scratch has designed these specialized grinds to fit one of three swing types. Playing the correct grind for your swing promotes more consistent contact with the sweet spot as the club works with your swing instead of against it.

Scratch 1018 wedges are forged from 1018 carbon steel, the softest steel used by anyone making golf clubs today. The raw heads are then ground and finished completely by hand. The end result is the finest hand made forged wedge in golf, specifically customized for your game. The headshape of the 1018 wedges was inspired by work done by Scratch Golf with Tour Pros from around the globe. They listened to what the Pros wanted in a wedge, and the 1018 wedge shape reflects that feedback.

1018 wedges feature the Scratch Golf proprietary ABC groove technology. ABC stands for "all bite no chew" and these grooves deliver just that. The machined grooves are maximum width and depth for maximum spin but the edges are slightly rounded to reduce chewing your golf ball. The best of all worlds.

The 1018 wedges by Scratch Golf feature a unique Smoked Satin finish providing the durability of chrome with a duller and darker color to eliminate glare. The minimal stampings provide a very clean look unique to the Scratch Golf brand and allow for personal stampings to be added to customize the wedge for the customer who will be playing it.

Scratch 1018 wedges come standard with a wedge flex True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft and Pure Grip, though many shaft and grip upgrade options are available. All Scratch 1018 wedges ordered online offer the following custom options at no additional charge: one of seven ferrule colors, up to three letters and/or one special character stamped on the club, and choice of paint fill on the lettering. Should you choose any of the various upgrades, we will contact you to clarify the exact upgrade you desire. Any clubs with upgrades will require 2-4 weeks for delivery. Please contact Beaver Golf at beavergolf1@gmail.com or (888) 650-2870 if you have any questions regarding Scratch 1018 wedges or upgrades.

Digger/Driver
Players in this swing profile tend to be very "steep and deep" with the club at impact. Their aggressive angle of attack causes the club head to dig into the ground requiring greater bounce angles to get the club head back out of the ground and maintain contact between the face and golf ball. Miss-hits for this profile are commonly fat.

• The 53° and 56° for Digger/Drivers feature the SND Grind. The SND grind features a high effective 14 degree bounce angle. The SND has a wide sole and little trailing edge relief. This grind has a slight amount of camber and is designed for a player who takes full, large divots.
• The 58° and 60° for Digger/Drivers feature the SFU Grind. The SFU grind features a high effective 14 degree bounce angle. The SFU has a wide sole and has aggressive heel and toe relief paired with little trailing edge relief. The grind has a slight amount of camber and is designed for players who take large, full divots. The heel and toe relief is designed to help the leading edge stay low to the ground when the face is opened for higher, softer shots around the greens.

Driver/Slider
This swing type encompasses a vast majority of golfers. These players will try and trap the ball between the clubface and ground, taking a shallow, even divot. The Driver/Slider moderate angle of attack requires a mid-bounce angle providing assistance in maintaining the club head's path through the turf and ensuring crisp, clean contact. Driver/Sliders tend to miss both thin and fat.

• The 53° and 56° for Driver/Sliders feature the TNC Grind. The TNC grind features a moderate 10 degree effective bounce angle. The TNC has a medium width sole that features relief in the center of the trailing edge. The TNC has moderate camber and is designed for the player with a moderate angle of attack. It will play like an iron at a square address position and like a full-soled wedge when it is opened up. The fuller sole makes it a very stable wedge from the fairway while the relief offers players the option to open it up out of tight lies and bunkers.
• The 58° and 60° for Driver/Sliders feature the EGG Grind. The EGG grind features a moderate 10 degree effective bounce angle. The EGG has a thin sole width that features aggressive heel, toe and trailing edge relief and is designed for the player with a moderate angle of attack. This allows the leading edge to stay closer to the ground even when the face is opened up allowing for higher, softer shots around the greens. The moderate bounce reduce digging while the thinner sole limits ground contact and thin shots. The moderate camber allows it to play more like a wider sole wedge out of the bunker.

Sweeper/Slider
Often a favorite of course superintendents, Sweeper/Sliders have a very shallow angle of attack and take little to no divot at all. This swing profile requires a low bounce angle, which helps combat the thin miss-hit for Sweeper/Sliders.

• The 53° and 56° for Sweeper/Sliders feature the PDG Grind. The PDG grind features a lower 6 degree effective bounce angle. The PDG has a medium width sole grind with moderate trailing edge relief. This grind features a larger amount of camber along with low bounce to assist players with shallower angles of attack in making solid contact and not catch shots either fat or thin.
• The 58° and 60° for Sweeper/Sliders feature the RPD Grind. The RPD features a lower 6 degree effective bounce angle. The RPD has a medium width sole along with moderate trailing edge relief and aggressive relief in the heel. It also has an aggressive amount of camber. The low bounce and relief allows a player to open up the club face without bringing the leading edge up off the ground.
